If you are planning to visit Costa Rica or you are already there and want to venture to Panama, we recommend you visit this wonderful Caribbean island that is only 320 km from San José and 80 km from Puerto Viejo. The two means that we recommend going to this tropical charm are by plane or by ground transportation. Flying is the most convenient, fastest way, but it is only possible from San José. However, if you have more time, traveling by road can also be very interesting for those who prefer to have more contact with this region and its customs.

Getting to Bocas by Plane from San Jose.

The only airline that offers this service is Costa Rica Green Airways. The flight lasts 45 minutes and leaves Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday at 11 am from the Tobias Bolaños International Airport in San Jose. The return is on the same day at 2 pm from the José Ezequiel Hall International Airport in Bocas del Toro

The trip is made in Caravan EX aircraft which has all the comforts. During the flight, you can enjoy incredible tropical landscapes. Some of the destinations that are flown over are the Irazú, the Turrialba, the Cordillera de Talamanca, the Costa Rican Caribbean, and the Panamanian Caribbean. The color of the water in Bocas del Toro from the air will be a unique experience that will leave you amazed. To confirm the days of departure, times, and rates, we recommend you go to the official website of the airline.

Arrive in Bocas by ground transportation.

If you choose to travel by road, our recommendation is that it be through a ground transportation company specialized in offering the service from San José or Puerto Viejo to Bocas. In this way, you will be able to stop worrying about many things that you must take into account if you want to drive on your own or if you travel by regular bus. During the trip, you will head east from San José to the city of Limón. Then you go down the coast of the Caribbean Sea to the border town of Sixaola. There you will have to comply with customs procedures and the advantage of traveling with these specialized companies is that they will guide you throughout the process. After crossing the border into Panama you will enter a region of abundant nature with incredible views and then arrive at the town of Almirante, where you will take the boat that will finally take you to Bocas del Toro.

From San José, the tour begins at 5:30 am and lasts approximately 10 hours. If your adventure starts from Puerto Viejo, it will be about 4 hours and the departure is at 11 am. Then you will arrive at Almirante to board the boat that will take you to this incredible destination around 5:00 pm it takes 30 minutes to reach the island finally. We suggest you go to the official website of Caribe Shuttle to know the most precise details and you can find out about their recommendations, schedules, and rates.

Divers Paradise Boutique Hotel has a privileged location in Bocas. We are only 4 minutes by taxi from the airport. If you choose to come by road and you arrived on the island by boat, don’t worry, we are 3 minutes from the pier. When you arrive by the means you have chosen, it will be very easy for you to get a taxi and for an affordable price they will take you to your hotel.
